In my peaceful dreams I can be the playing child that forgets all sorrow
: I wish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year. Hopefully you'll get some days of rest. And I thank you for the words of encouragement. I am touched and amazed by the solidarity I experience from people I never met. And those who let me down don't count.
My blogs: Sinntemolen | DE GrainWorks | EN I'd be glad to see you around. And please drop me a line/comment if you like what you see (or if you don't).

: "The Sicilian reality is a pre modern one, rooted within the family system and characterized by an accommodating behavior toward the corrupted system, strongly based on nepotism as opposed to a healthier meritocracy." Mimi Mollica from Palermo has made an essay about his home, about a society controlled by the Cosa Nostra and some people fighting the mafia. I suggest you have a look at his work either here or on Mollica's site.

: I'd like to call the melancholic photos by *bwiti poetic. They are not pure in the sense of litte or no processing but nevertheless beautiful. Enjoy!

: Probably I am disappointing my watchers. And I do apologize for that. But I just did not feel creative recently. Not at all. Gotta recharge my batteries in more than one way.

: Blues, Booze and BBQ - that is the title of a series by Michael Loyd Young. And it sounds like home to me I enjoyed it very much and I hope you do so too. You can watch the essay on his homepage of course - I recommend to go there anyway in order to see his other work -, but there is a slideshow with some music on burnmagazine and you'll get the feeling a lot better there.

: Browsing the section of darkroom-traditional I stumbled upon a gallery with some shots I liked. Enjoy!

: It was a small step for mankind but I big step for me. I said XP/64 goodbye and switched to Seven/64. Luckily the upgrade worked without major flaws and I found drivers for all my devices including printer and scanner. Only needed a little hack for my Audigy soundcard. As there is a nice pager (Windowspager 0.77) and Launchy/64 does a very good job I don't even miss bbLean. Seven looks and works pretty cool I must say.
: When I have finished this journal it is time to cook. I'll make some meat skewers from pork-filet that I put in a marinade of oil, salt, pepper, onions, garlic (lots!) and oregano yesterday. And we'll have baked potatoes with sage and bacon as side dish plus a cucumber-salad. I start to drool.

: I have a film in the fixer and I'm hoping for one or two nice shots. I did not even expose the whole roll but cut off the first 8/9 frames because I did not want to wait. Yes, patience is none of my virtues
: Later this afternoon I plan to do something that I've been procrastinating for a while. My camera-bodies and lenses need some care and cleaning. The sensor of the 30D too probably. BTW: Never buy any expensive special super-duper-mega-special-photo-fluid for this. Just get some 100% isopropanol from the drugstore. Much cheaper and it does the job. Also I recommend to get a lens-pen. I got mine for little money from *m*zon.
: And tonight I'll see a vaudeville-show. Should be fun and an opportunity to take shots like this one

: Someone else commented on these photos by Brennan O'Connor from a Thai refugee camp that they pictured "just another group of displaced people" and that this essay was "nothing special at all". I do not agree at all to this verdict. But please have a look yourself and form an opinion. I think these photos from displaced people from Burma do tell a story. They touch me and I hope they touch you too.

: As much as I like street and documentary - I also appreciate if someone has the ability to capture landscapes the right way. Someone who has a great talent on this field is Maciej from Poland. Many of his shots are breathtaking if you ask me.

: Well, I had offered a free print for my 80.000. visitor, but obviously the shoutbox is not the right place for such announcements. Nobody reacted. Too bad... It seems like the shoutbox is the most superfluous thing here on dA. I deactivated it again.
: Actually I have enough problems with my back. But I felt like falling down a stair, I missed the last step and twisted both knees. Now I wear nice knee bolsters and use a stick. Call me Dr. House
: It is time for some new features from dA and outside. So here we go.

: "In complication I look for simplicity." That is what Rafal Milach says about himself. And he does an amazing job, if you ask me. Especially his essays are wonderful. The polish photog won several prizes - well deserved one might add.

: Today I'd like to introduce you to a guy from NYC, NY. I bet you won't be disappointed when you visit his most eclectic gallery. I am not so fond of the fat black borders he often uses, as I find they sometimes choke the picture, but many many shots are absolutely great. Enjoy!
